Runna Review: From Serial Quitter to Consistent Runner?
How a structured plan (and a bit of stubbornness) finally got me running regularly.
If I had a pound every time I said, “Right, that’s it. I’m going to get into running.” I’d have at least enough for a decent pair of trainers. I’ve started running more times than I can count—each time convinced that this was the time it would stick, only to give up when it got too hard, too cold or windy, my schedule too busy or when it became just too much effort.
So, stepping into 2025, I knew I needed a different approach. Instead of just vaguely wanting to be a runner, I needed something to keep me on track. Enter Runna—an app that promises a structured training plan, accountability, and is basically a running coach in your pocket. I’d tried it once before and quit (I know, I know) but this time I felt determined!
Getting Started – No More Guesswork
The thing that drew me to Runna was the structure. No more heading out for a run and just seeing what happens—I had a plan. And honestly? That makes all the difference.
The app asks for your current ability (in my case: “Can run, but not far and not fast”) and your goal (for me, just to stick at it for longer than two weeks). It then tailors a plan that gradually increases distance and intensity, so you’re never just chucked in at the deep end.
The Consistency Breakthrough
Consistency has never been my strong point. I’m great at grand plans but not so great at sticking to them. That’s why I also started my Instagram—to keep me accountable. It turns out that telling the internet you’re doing something makes quitting way harder.
And the thing is, Runna works. No faffing about deciding what kind of run to do—I just opened the app, followed the plan, and got it done. Some days felt great, some not so much, but I showed up. And as someone who usually gives up as soon as things get tough, that felt like a massive win.
Does It Work?
Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: I went from huffing and puffing through 3K to finishing my Return to Running plan with a strong 5k, feeling stronger and more confident. And the proof is in the very sweaty post-run selfies—honestly, it’s a miracle my phone survived.
I’ve signed up for the 10K plan next, which is exciting considering that the last time I ran a 10k was over two years ago, But here I am, determined to keep going.
Is It Worth It?
Runna isn’t free—it’s £15.99 a month or £99.99 a year. And while that’s not pocket change, it’s been worth every penny. Having a plan to follow has kept me going, and the fact that I’m still running weeks later says it all.
You can try it for free for 2 weeks by using this code: RUNNASHGYWKV
So, if you want to run but struggle with motivation, consistency, or just not knowing where to start—give Runna a go. It might just be the thing that finally makes it stick.
Now, onto the next challenge… 10K, I’m coming for you!
Love Sophie xoxo
